First Tuesday: Mid-Autumn Festival with Heart Strings Mandarin Music Trio
Tuesday, October 7, 2025 - 5:30pm to 6:30pm
Join us for a special musical celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, featuring the Heart Strings Mandarin Trio. This talented ensemble—Sharon Gan (pianist and vocalist), Dr. Jerry Lin (scientist and erhu aficionado), and Dan Velasquez (composer and multi-instrumentalist)—will share a curated selection of songs from across Asia.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, the second largest holiday in Chinese culture after Lunar New Year, falls on October 6 this year. Our October First Tuesday Music falls on October 7, giving us the perfect opportunity to continue the celebration with music, culture, and community.
“Heart Strings Mandarin, featuring founder Sharon Gan, Daniel Velasquez, and Dr. Jerry Lin, delivered a spectacular musical performance at the Midland Library’s October Reopening Celebration. The trio performed a diverse range of music from across Asia, utilizing various instruments including guitar, electronic piano, erhu, and bass, along with vocals. This captivating event drew a full audience, and the musicians remained afterward to answer questions and engage in conversation with attendees.” ~ Toan Lam-Sullivan, Mid-County Regional Librarian (Chinese KSA), Multnomah County Library

“The Heart Strings Mandarin Trio, featuring Sharon Gan, Daniel Velasquez & Dr. Jerry Lin, delivered a truly delightful and enriching performance at the Hillsboro Library’s Mid-Autumn Festival. The trio’s passion for music and culture shone through every heartfelt melody, captivating not only the children but transporting the entire audience through time and tradition. By integrating bilingual (Chinese - English) phrases through music & teaching moments, they added a meaningful layer of learning and connection.
